Designed Gardens

Unity and transition. Flow. Enclosure. Balance. Proportion. Composition. Structure… these are our some of our key words to consider when designing a garden.

I believe these considerations are the hallmarks of a proper garden Vs a landscape. What would you prefer?

When carefully considered and applied, to meet the needs and wants of our clients, the true potential of your outdoor space is unlocked.

Following these core principles of professional garden design unlocks the best from outdoor spaces and in so doing… makes the best use of them, creating that ‘wow-factor’. However… Simplicity is key; aided by repetition which in itself is aided by use of the colour and form of a planting scheme (this is considered further in another post).

All the different elements can be unified by the regulating line. This imaginary line organises and links... So that the space does not become incoherent and disjointed.

One thing I love to create in a garden is a focal point. This can act a punctuation mark in the garden. A visual stepping stone to a hidden corner or main usable space away from the house. Touching on planting a little more, a careful composition can be used to soften or accentuate a focal point or perhaps lead the eye. As too can lighting.

These are the interesting and (at least for me), the exciting parts of garden design bringing the must haves and would likes together..When designing a garden however, it is equally important to consider the how and the why as well as the what.

I’m talking about Environmental conditions (soil, water, light)… Utilities… Privacy… Access… Drainage. Budget also has to be considered sometime too.

I am yet to find a Ferrari for the same price as a Ford Fiesta!

At the end of the day, exactly what we do with a garden very much depends on a clients needs and wants.

We conduct a thorough site survey and consultation to figure out what is required and equally begin to discover what will work in the space and environment available.

Bringing the many variables and infinite possibilities together into a workable and achievable plan is complex and time consuming. With a passion for creating fantastic gardens (and high aspirations). This part is still FREE WITH ZERO OBLIGATION. That right, we design garden for FREE. We work with clients for as long as necessary before embarking on the creation phase.

A garden is an investment into happiness, wellbeing and quality of life. It is important to get it right, with the due care and attention of your contractor from day 1.
