Child Friendly

One of my favourite projects was design and creation of a Sensory Garden for a lovely family near Nantwich. The needs and wants of our clients were very different from the norm. To meet these we needed to really bring the garden to life.

Children are sensory beings. Sensory stimulation in the early years is vital for emotional wellbeing in later years. Seeing, touching, feeling, smelling, hearing… these actions stimulate the brain to make neurological connections - which nurture our ability to connect with other people and regulate our emotions.

So, when there are children to consider, I believe it is of paramount importance to understand and integrate their needs into the garden design.

Even a sand pit, a swing, a slide, a climbing frame… but it can go further. Particularly for young people with additional physical and neurological needs.

With so many materials at our disposal, gardens can be a blank canvas to make magical and enriching with lifetime benefits for people of all ages.

In this garden, the focal point was a wildlife meadow coupled with chamomile lawn providing colour and texture to see and feel underfoot.
