Stoned Up

What is so exciting about a pile of stones? Well, not much. It can actually be the opposite - to be honest. Here’s a horror story, or two, for you…

This stuff you can see is called Type 1 MOT… a certificated product of quarried stone crushed from 40mm down to DUST. This… dust is the important bit.

Not mud. Not brick. No old batteries and break disks. Certainly not bits of rubber and plastic. Just STONE.

We’ve turned a couple of grab lorries away before, because what they brought for our subbases was quite frankly - rubbish, to put it politely. Okay so it may have been ‘recycled’ … but there are far better ways to build environmentally friendly gardens (a topic for a future blog) than compromise the structural integrity of what your building.

The recycled alternative to Type 1 MOT is something called 6FT… a recycled and much cheaper product. Arguably, better? (depends on its use).

But because 6FT lacks the DUST element and is often polluted by all manner of things. It does not belong under a patio, pathway or concrete platform. If it is not the proper stuff, it will not compact and ‘lock’ together. It is therefore less stable.

Why cut corners? Gardens are a lasting investment so deserve to be built with a long-term and responsible mindset.
